Newton lessen LogoMy first submit for today's design, not really from today but a visual identity project I did last year. ‘Newton lessen’ provides Science & Technology lessons and teaching materials for to primary schools in the Netherlands. I got asked to design the visual identity and make various branding materials. The brand's name, 'Newton Lessen,' pays tribute to Sir Isaac Newton, a famous scientist, astronomer and mathematician renowned for his many and important discoveries. Since Newton's work is vast and varied, I came up with the idea that Newton can’t be captured into a single symbol. Therefore I designed a dynamic and playful logo made up of four symbols, each representing something Newton discovered. F.e. an apple that symbolises the Laws of Gravity, a prism for his thoughts about the refraction of light, mathematical symbols representing calculus and the famous Newtonian telescope. #branding #science #logo

Graphite Logo ExplorationAn open-source and free design software made by very passionate volunteers. For this #logo , I wanted to nod to Graphite’s roots. The current logo features a pencil, which is a big favorite among the folks who contribute to the software. So, I made sure to keep that iconic pencil in my design by giving it a little twist. By playing with negative space, I not only kept the pencil but also introduced a node, which is a key part of Graphite’s features.

Graphite Logo Exploration #2An open-source and free design software made by very passionate volunteers. Similar to my first iteration, I decided on a slightly more abstract approach. I "carved" the pencil out of the hexagon. I think this makes for a really nice logomark/app icon! What do you all think?

LogoArchiveI've been involved in building resources for designers since 2011, first with BP&O and later with LogoArchive. LogoArchive is the one I'm most proud of, and humbled to have so many support the project. In short, I wanted to build an archive of historical logos, the biggest online. I've been scanning and digitising these for years, and now have a platform to add these to. Working with logos has had a profound impact on the way I design client logos. I believe that a designer immersing themselves in timeless logos like these will improve. Small caveat. To build something of this scale and over a decade requires a huge effort and resources. It is funded by our generous subscribers, whom allow me to make this full time job. I publish a lot of free stuff on social for anyone that needs inspiration for free. #logos #branding #design
